The township of Ultima will now enjoy a fully treated drinking water supply straight from the tap.

Supplying the town with drinking water means residents will no longer need to rely on their rainwater tanks or packaged water for drinking and food preparation.

Water will be treated in line with the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and supplied to Ultima from the Swan Hill Treatment Plant via a newly constructed pipeline.

GWMWater Managing Director Mark Williams said providing drinking water to townships in the region formed part of the organisation’s commitment to working for a thriving community.

“A drinking water supply is important to maintaining the liveability of towns in our region. Completion of this project will ensure residents in Ultima receive a water supply with a more consistent water clarity and quality,” he said.

“This generally improves the life of appliances such as hot water services,” Mr Williams said.

Mr Williams thanked residents for their patience during the works and said they would be invited to attend community celebrations in the coming months once details were confirmed.

Ultima resident, Sonia Cunning, said the community were pleased to have an improvement to water quality in the town.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to have potable water. We’ve noticed the change in the quality of water in Ultima already and it’s just fantastic. People are really excited about it,” Ms Cunning said.

Charges for a potable water supply for Ultima urban customers will be the same as other drinking water towns serviced by GWMWater.
